If you are interested in a systems development and management career and currently hold a Foundation Degree or HND (Higher National Diploma) or equivalent, the BSc (Hons) Applied Computing (Top-Up) allows you to gain a full undergraduate degree within one year of study.

About this course


What will I study?

Throughout the course you will study a wide range of topics, from systems development and strategic systems management, to social and current issues in computing, and professional management and practice.

You will also complete a case project, which will provide you with the opportunity to apply all of your existing skills to a substantial software development problem.

How will I be taught and assessed?

This course is taught using a range of methods, including: lectures, seminars, and practical workshops, where you will develop your skills.

Each module of study is assessed by coursework assignments, end-of-module examinations, or both. The individual project may be initiated by the University, the student, or an external client and consists of an end product and a report explaining and evaluating the project process.

All modules have some elements of practical work, the majority of which require the use of computer systems.

Careers and further study

Upon successful completion of this course, with a minimum of a 2:2 degree, you will also be able to further your understanding of this subject area with the option to progress on to our MSc Cyber Security. Alternatively, you may choose to apply to study our MSc Web and Mobile Development Technologiesprogramme which is taught on a part-time basis.

Upon successfully completing your course, you will be eligible to join one of our Professional Pathway programmes to continue your professional development and training. Each Pathway is worth a minimum of £3,000 and offered to our graduates for free, from our partner, QA. Find out more about the Pathways available and your eligibility.

After completing the course, you will be well placed to pursue a career in a wide range of business or computing-focused roles, for example, in systems and application development, computer programming or project management.

Applicants should have the following:

  • A HND/Foundation Degree in a related discipline
  • A good GCSE profile including Maths and English Language at minimum grade C or equivalent

Students seeking to join the course as either direct or alternative applicants should seek approval of their HND or Foundation Degree prior to applying on UCAS. A list of modules is required as part of this approval process.

Scholarships and bursaries for international students

If you are an international student choosing to study this Top-Up degree you will be eligible for either our programme bursary or a country bursary, whichever is greater.

Available programme bursary: £1,000

High-performing students may be eligible for an academic scholarship in addition.

Alternatively, depending on the country you are from you may be eligible for one of our country bursaries and/or scholarships to help finance your studies.

All of our scholarships and bursaries are automatically applied when we process your application and our team will be able to confirm your eligibility.

How to apply

Once you’re ready to apply, if you are a UK or EU student, you will need to apply via UCAS. If you are an international student, you can apply to us directly following the below instructions.



Direct applications – international students

We strongly recommend that you submit your application as early as possible to allow you to complete all of the preparations needed to study in the UK. After receiving an offer it can take time to arrange your finances and apply for your visa and it is important that you arrive in good time to enrol onto your course. Please refer to the Dates and Fees page.

You can apply online to study the BSc (Hons) Applied Computing (Top-Up). This method allows you to upload your supporting documents at the time of application and automatically receive your student application number.

If you are unable to apply online, then you can download a PDF application form and email it to admin.
